So I managed to get a hold of some roses used in a display that were just going to be thrown out after an event. I managed to make a little set-up with them (the thorns had already been removed so this made setting up much quicker) and then let my oldest leopard gecko, Randall, wander around it at her leisure, taking photos whenever she was in a nice position. This was one of the results. I love her to bits
Thought I'd submit this in time for dA's Great Valentine Exchange, and I don't want to hear any "ew Valentine's Day - you don't need a day to show that you love someone". I've always been single for that day but I don't say that, and do you know why? Because love isn't just for couples, I love my family, my friends and my pets such as Randall here. And while people should show how much they love someone all the time, they don't - so there's nothing wrong with havign a day set aside to actually think about love and show your appreciation to everyone around you how much you care for them. Yes, it's over-commercialised, but so is every other holiday: mother's day, father's day, Christmas, Halloween...oh and birthdays! If you refuse to join in on a day to appreciate love all around you, don't celebrate your birthday - why join in on a holiday for celebrating another year alive? Surely you should be celebrating every extra day that you are alive longer!! But similarly with Valentine's, everyone tends to just take that for granted.
In short: If 'over-commercialisation', or 'don't need one day to celebrate/appreciate it', are your excuses for hating Valentine's then stop celebrating any other holidays. Otherwise you can't really complain about just one holiday day. If 'love is only for couples' is your excuse for complaining, you're just adding to the problem with Valentine's Day, making it about couples only. Love exists in other forms and everyone needs to start recognising and celebrating that!
